Determining the strength of any trend is an important part of finding trades based on the continuation of that trend. But how do you spot the strength of a trend in a chart? Successful trader Ken Chow tells us in this interview how he does exactly that. Ken talks about how he sees the "skewing" of a candlestick chart to determine the strength of a trend and how he finds "measured moves" on a chart to tell him where to buy. We also discuss how he determines how much risk is in a potential trade and how he determines the percentage pullback on a chart to find a great entry point for any trade. We also talk about why he approaches the market from a "Zen-like" philosophy and the way he measures his success in the markets. Ken also talks about a great trade he had recently and also a "not-so-great" trade and what he learned from both.

How To Trade Measured Moves and ZigZag Patterns

TraderInterviews.com: Hello everybody. Welcome back to TraderInterviews.com. Thanks again for joining us for another show this week. Today, we're going to be speaking with Ken Chow, and I've known Ken for a couple of years. He's spoken with us maybe a year ago or more in an interview and he also do our Traderinterviews live events that we'd had a couple of years ago. And Ken is an interesting trader because from what I know and well we've talked about him in the past he combines a very Zen-like quality to his tradings. We're going to ask him how he prepares mentally for that but also something about how he approaches the markets as well. So, Ken, thanks very much for joining us on our show today.

Ken Chow: Well thanks for having me, Tim.

TraderInterviews.com: Now, you're not too far from me up in the valley above north of LA, correct?

Ken Chow: Right.

TraderInterviews.com: Okay. So, you're a full time trader. How long have you been trading full time?

Ken Chow: About six, seven years full time.

TraderInterviews.com: Okay. What did you do before you were a trader?

Ken Chow: Well, way back I was an engineer which is how I came up with an approach that works for me. Being an engineer, I tried different types of things and became a full time trader after several years of trial and error.

TraderInterviews.com: Yeah, that's interesting because when I've talked to other engineers, they told me that, now everybody is different, but engineering is very accurate. It's very precise. There are mathematical formulas and the idea is you always get the same answer and trading is very much not like that. There's an art form to it. Did you have a tough time kind of making that transition?

Ken Chow: Oh, absolutely,...
